Advancements, achievements, having a strong ability and being able to use it efficiently stood as the major symbol of class, with abilities tying into traits like intelligence with research to back it. Thus, the brightest and strongest of each generation were all sent to Avernius, the floating city at the center of the continent close to the core of the realm, the pinnacle of human achievement and an eternal shrine to the constellations, the humans that have transcended mortality through their ability.
Of course, there is a deeper meaning in the schools in this magnificent city, as the schools produce tons of successful students every year, with the best being deemed as rankers. The cream of the crop is then put through trials and tests in order to attempt to qualify for the DECK initiative, who's original initiative was to create more constellations but now has a different role to play.
As the current year approached, the covenant, a human that had transcended the realm of constellations and maintained the barrier around the realm, died for a mysterious reason. Thus, the graduates of the DECK initiative were gathered and each were put through tests designed to help them ascend into the position.
In this story, the characters are all rankers from the four high schools and are attempting to qualify for DECK as they go through the qualification test for the program.
