There is a black ring around this large castle. It is a sign of a powerful anti-magic ward being held into place to prevent outside magic. The ward works so well that no one may use magic inside the black ring either. Ani wears multiple 'tattoos' on her arms to evade the ward's powerful suppression of magical energy. It allows her to use magic, but with a horrible price that she'll never reveal. Or at least she'll try not to.

In order to get past the black ring you must ask Ani for entry. Depending on her feelings she'll allow you to pass with a flick of her wrist. Defenses have been set into place in case attackers try to come in. Watch yourself.All Rights Reserved

I couldn't stop trembling even more now. I calmed down a little more and checked my arm again. I was correct, I wasn't hallucinating. On my shoulder was a tattoo. It was a character of some sort-- in a different language. It looked like it was Chinese mixed with Islamic calligraphy. The skin around my arm was red and irritated. The symbol stuck out like a vein. I hyperventilated. I thought I was going to have a panic attack. I had to sit there, on my bed, and command myself to calm down. "I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming. This isn't real," I whispered. I checked the mirror again and searched all over my body to see if I had any other markings, but so far this was the only one. I shut my eyes, trying to force myself to wake up, but this was real. And for the first time, out of all the panicking, my vision went black.

There, coming through the door, were several large angry men, dressed strangely in what looked like animal furs and carrying ominous looking weapons. She could hear her own screams escaping from her lips, and she opened her eyes to notice she was lying in her bed in the safety of her room in the convent where she lived. She was still trembling and had to tell herself it was just a dream. She was safe and no one would ever be able to hurt her.

That was not where Aphmau was. She was born and raised in a small village far to the east called Phoenix Drop. After 6 years of intense, tiring combat training and schooling, she'd been chosen to move to the castle as a guard. Of course, she wasn't expecting to be guarding the Crowned Prince of the Falcon Claw Castle. If she had the chance to go back to that day, she'd take that chance and run for the hills while she still could. 19 year old Prince Aaron, wanted absolutely nothing to do with her. He didn't want to be watched over, he didn't want to be guarded, he just wanted to be left alone for once in his life. With his luck, that was impossible. He never wanted the crown.
