There is a black ring around this large castle. It is a sign of a powerful anti-magic ward being held into place to prevent outside magic. The ward works so well that no one may use magic inside the black ring either. Ani wears multiple 'tattoos' on her arms to evade the ward's powerful suppression of magical energy. It allows her to use magic, but with a horrible price that she'll never reveal. Or at least she'll try not to.
In order to get past the black ring you must ask Ani for entry. Depending on her feelings she'll allow you to pass with a flick of her wrist. Defenses have been set into place in case attackers try to come in. Watch yourself.

I couldn't stop trembling even more now. I calmed down a little more and checked my arm again. I was correct, I wasn't hallucinating. On my shoulder was a tattoo.
