Raelynn used to have the same dream a lot before Kindergarten started. Around the time when her mom's new husband was almost caught for what he did to her. Almost. Now Raelynn is entering middle school six years later and the dreams have started again. She's never told anyone what this one dream contains. Some instinct told her not to. In her dream, her mom and herself are arguing late at night. Something told her this was common but what happened next was not. Her mother hit her. Raelynn is scared the abuse will start again but this time, her mother will be the abuser.

How can a normal seventeen year girl have the luck of a broken mirror? How can she work late every night and get up early for school? How can she deal with the cruelty of a father who enjoys her pain? For a while these questions didn't bother Georgia. For as long as she can remember she was the one who took care of her sister, Camille. She was the one who paid the bills. She was the one who got food and learned to fix broken toilets. She was the one her father took his frustrations out on. Simple. But when Josh comes along her life is suddenly not that simple. She became noticed at school. Which means the bruises and scars were noticed. Josh knows how screwed up her life is. He knows about the abuse. He knows that she could get it all to go away. But how does he stop her from being afraid? Can he convince her to love him back without being scared?
