This is a Hunger Games Alternate Universe fanfic. What if Prim hadn't had a sister to volunteer in her place? Suppose instead of Katniss, she'd had a brother? If you're appalled by the idea of a Hunger Games without Katniss, read no further. But otherwise, consider how tragic this would have been. Given that no other girl wanted to volunteer in Prim's place, there would have been no way for her brother to keep her out of the arena. He could do one thing. He could volunteer in Peeta's place, to protect her. But since there can be only one winner, he promises the people of District 12 that he will give his own life to make sure Primrose comes home alive. How would that change the events of the 74th Hunger Games?
I changed a few things around. The Everdeens' TV has had a major upgrade, so to speak, from the generosity of the Capitol. Suzanne Collins depicted Panem as a religionless society, but I put the churches back in. Prim is a christian but her brother is not. This story does not have a religious theme. I am not a Christian myself (Jewish), but since Christianity is the most common religion throughout North America, it would make sense it would survive in Panem.
Rated Mature for obscene or profane language. Sexual intercourse is mentioned but not described in any detail.

What if Katniss had never been born? On the day of the mine explosion Prim had been sick, forcing her father to take the day off work. With her father surviving the explosion, Prim realized how dangerous his job was and Prim demanded he teach her how to hunt incase he didn't get lucky again. Now Prim has a set of twins as younger siblings, Angelica and Gabe who are nine years old. With a family to help feed and protect, the worst thing that could happen would be for Prim to get picked on her first year eligible. Of course, the worst things always tend to happen.
