That Girl In The Shadows: The Foreshadowed Phantom

I woke up to the familiar sight of the cell.
My back felt as if there was fire burning it. I wondered if I could move just a tiny bit to get comfortable. Slowly I scooted forward, and immediately the chains yanked me back. I grunted in frustration, and looked up. My captor was coming. Quickly I scooted back towards the wall, and watched him closely as he set down the tray of food. He glared at me, and then walked out of the cell.
I glanced at the food; there was no way that I was eating it. The meat didn't even look like it was dead. Nasty! I was pretty sure that it was moving, or my eyes were just playing tricks on me. I looked away; I yearned to be with my fellow shadows. I glanced at the cell door, and to my surprise I saw that the shadow hunter hadn't locked it! Slowly I inched my way up the wall until I was standing. I turned towards the wall and stepped backwards. The chains strained against me, but I refused to stay here any longer. I took another step backwards, but this time I barely took a half step before I was pulled back to my usual spot. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, I could do this. As I tried to break the chain again, I was pulled back once more. Anger surged through; I wouldn't let anything hold me down!
Then I yanked as hard as possible, and the chain snapped. The cuffs stayed on, along with about five rings of chain. I walked towards the cell door, pried it open and peered out into the hallway. Luckily the shadow hunter was nowhere to be seen. Taking a deep breath, I stepped out of my cell and made a run for it. I shoved open the door at the end of the hallway and stepped out into the open.
Finally, I was free.
