Darren Grey manages his life through constantly playing music. Without it, voices taunt him and his thoughts slowly devour him whole. Considering this, his life depends on music to drown out the voices. At the same time, he blocks himself from society and has little to no social contact with anyone in fear of hurting others.

However, preppy football players start taking advantage of him and figuring out his weakness; his headphones, and it becomes an everyday thing.

When classmate Carolyn Hall bumps into Darren in the hall, she becomes curious of him and tries to get to know him better, which puts his life on the line as well as threaten hers in the process...

She just wants him to open up to her, but Darren is hesitant about pushing away the only person who has ever cared or shown sympathy for him...
