Something had to have happened between the events in Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge. Not only does the Kid seem like a different musician, but a different person. He went from on the verge of success to nothing and I wanted to explore some of those changes in his life.

The Kid stumbles on a notebook tossed aside in a puddle. Picking it up he can't put down the prose, artwork and diary entries of an unknown girl. He wants to learn more about this mystery woman he has only known through her journal writing. He finds himself at a crossroads and is in search of guidance and distraction, could she be the one to help him? 

Please know that this is the Kid, not Prince, though I did borrow from events in Prince's life, they are not linear or under certain timelines. AU of course,  but most references will be built from what we know about the Kid in Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge. 

Inspired in part by the 2 month love affair between Gertrude and Dexter. Shout out to Ingrid Chavez!

*This is an Alt timeline story that's slightly based from the movie* Prince is an aspiring artist trying his damndest to get recognized. Creating a song a day, he has no one to show why he works so hard to get where he wants to be. When he finds himself living back home with his stepfather and mother, he realizes that what he once had isn't what is going to take him where he knows he can be. Upon moving in, he meets a new friend named Andre, and with him, his step sister named Samira, a former childhood friend. Prince doesn't realize that reconnecting with an old friend can help him find himself in a totally different way. She sees the potential and talent that everyone around him doesn't see until she opens Prince's eyes for himself. Sometimes all you need to do is fall before you rise up, but falling always requires a little help.

Jamie is his destructive egotistical side that loves to drink, while camille is his lustful sexual side, always coming on to another human. Camille sings the dirty lyrics...while Jamie sings about how everyone should go fuck themselves. And Prince...he's fighting with these two personalities. Trying so hard to be found normal, he creates his own music to avoid them. Meets a girl named Divinity, introduced to him by a band mate one night at a gig. He falls head over heels in love with her. She already has a boyfriend with his own band, but Prince treats Divinity how a girl should be treated, and she treats him like anyone else. Divinity even gets to speak to these personalities. Her boyfriend hates him because he's the freak of the town. This is no love triangle.

I had so many different original ideas for that story and this was the very first draft starting with only 9 paragraphs. I rewrote it entirely while following the same ideas I had for FBM.
