For her entire life, Morgan Grace had been told she was "special", but she never understood how. She had always been shut out from the world, so she didn't know what "normal" was.
One day, she decides to ask her parents why she had a strange, solid stone pink birthmark-thing on her hand, and learns the shocking truth: She's adopted.
Morgan sets out on a journey to find her real family, and stumbles upon a group of people, with birthmarks like hers, called the Crystal Gems. They take her in and tell her she's part of their family, but soon Morgan realizes that they have more secrets kept from her than her adopted family did.
As Morgan fights back feelings of anger and betrayal, she also comes closer and closer to finding her place in the world.
She won't be lost much longer.
