Random thoughts moving through life. As I continue in my retirement from work I often fret about the waste of time. By not completing a lengthy task list everyday am I wasting the last portion of my life? Is "doing" what gives value to a life? Is "being" enough? If a person is in constant motion does that flutter create a wall of space? Do we not need stillness in order to connect? Must that stillness be internal rather than situational? Haven't all of us had some of our most intimate conversations while sharing a chore? Doing the dishes together can set the stage for sharing, as well as sitting on a darkened porch watching the sky. Maybe what is truly needed for a connected life is to slow down. Stop trying to "win" and savor. Being warm on a cold day, sitting in the shade of a tree on a hot one, feeling life on your skin. Helping, and/or listening to others can be the most rewarding use of your time. If you want intimacy, help without expectation of reward , listen without instructing. Given quiet and acceptance most of us will share our true selves.
