Alin Knight and his brother, Daniel have been thrown from place to place in foster care. Then they are taken in by Madeline Harris and she explains to them that they were sent to her by the mother that abandoned the boys after Daniel's birth. Alin is reluctant to believe in anything Maddie Harris says but he soon finds the reason and the need to help her through Maddie's niece, Cheslee. Cheslee's odd nature and charming smile makes Alin willing to help Maddie and his mother find anything, even if its the reason a raven is like a writing desk.
