"You don't know me like you used to anymore, Emma. It's best for you to stay out of what goes on in my mind," I said, motioning for her to stay where she was standing as I began walking to the exit. There were a few moments of a pause. "Used to?" her voice called after me. Stopping in my tracks, I turned back around. I knew exactly what I was about to say. I knew exactly what effect it would have on her. I knew exactly how she would question everything. And I wanted to say it. I wanted to give in... at least a little bit.
