Late in the winter of my sixteenth year, my mother decided upon herself it was time to leave Perth. I would have agreed if it wasn't for my rapid weight loss and persistent migraines.

My mother was a tough cookie to crack, but eventually she allowed me to be isolated from the rest of teh family and the outside world. I rarely left the house, slept for hours on end, ate stale gummy worms and read my Bantem Classic Edition of Jane Eyre over and over. I cut school, ate mini pizzas and I ended up spending my afternoons watching reruns of Gossip Girl until midnight but nobody seemed to care anymore.

My doctor recommended I get social but my mother and I both knew that it wasn't going to happen in Perth. I was too deep in isolation to climb my way back up and Sydney held all the opportunities we both needed for a fresh start.
