Death. Always death. It comes with the curse.
Persephone, a bold and intelligent 14 year old girl, wants more than anything to escape her large farming family and looming marriage. The ocean and sailing offer a respite from her domineering father, submissive mother, and five brothers. Feeling almost imprisoned within her own home and village, Persephone only wants to get away. Taking to the sea in her sail boat, free to explore and be herself, is her dream, but nothing ever goes just as it is planned. Especially when other people get involved.
The handsome and arrogant 15 year old Syntyche has most of the village girls begging at his feet, but cannot get married. Without any notable achievement or riches to his name, families are disgusted with the prospect of marrying off their daughters to a young man without anything to give in return. Syntyche's thoughtful father and sweet mother decide it is time for an expedition of an incredible magnitude, one that will inspire awe when he walks down the street. He is to sail to the "ends of the earth" to make something for himself.
What will Persephone and Syntyche encounter on their journeys? What lies at the ends of their journeys?
And will one end be sooner than the other's?
