As the teen ran through the woods, she ignored the tree limbs hitting her in the face, tearing her shirt sleeves, and the roots trying to trip her. She finally, after twenty minutes of long hard running, she had to stop and catch the breath that had seemingly abandoned her.
Her head was pounding, her legs screaming in protest, and her arms were sore and bleeding. Her whole body was bruised and tired, and her breath came in ragged short puffs.
"So tired. If only i just took a short nap" She whispered to no one but herself. Her clothes were cut from where low lying branches had caught her clothes as she ran through the frigid, winter air. She found a tree that had branches going all the way to the top of it, and she climbed half way to the job, onto a wide branch that held her weight without bending. With that, she fell into a deep, and silent sleep.

„The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?", she asked, the sound of her voice strained, as if she hadn't been talking for a long time. The boy sat next to her, staring forward into the leaving sun. He didn't even look at the young woman when she spoke. Yet still he could feel himself, only a small part of himself, longing to hear more of her voice. It used to calm him down, singing soft lullabies whenever nightmares haunted him, or telling stories to him and his brother. It was the only comfort he could rely on. And he ended it before it could poison him. Silence filled the vast empty space. Only a single Rowan tree swayed in the non existent wind, its branches reaching down where the two figures sat, sheltering them from any harm that may come their way. It was time to leave this place again. He couldn't stay here for long. He hugged his knees tight, unconsciously swaying back and forth as he did so. Maybe, if he hugged himself hard enough, he could stay here and listen to one of her stories again? Just one short story. His efforts were in vain. He realized that when his hands and feet started to disappear, just like they have done thousands of times before. There was no way things could continue the way they were now. The corner of his mouth tilts upward slightly. I smile again. A smile!? A tiny one, but still. "Hm. So I got you to smile, that's progress, yeah? Can I get your name now?" No matter how many things had gone wrong, how many times she had failed to do something, how many people had turned against her; the girl always had the option of crawling back to this secluded spot that none but her self knew of. Every time, she would crawl back here and wish upon the stars. And every night, she would wish for the same thing, over and over again. She’d wish for happiness.
