Retired Ranger Halt O'Carrick has survived many trials. A murderous brother, an impossible war, thousands of missions, two apprentices, Skandia, Genovesan poison, and living with Pauline for years.

But when a rare sickness takes him over in his old age, there's no cure to be found. Can he survive?

Only Will and Maddie seem to believe that the disease isn't worthy of the old Ranger's life. On a quest to save Halt, both will need to make sacrifices and stay one step ahead of time.

Can they do it, and will it be too late?

And if they can, will that be the end?

*All characters belong to John Flanagan. If I create a character, I will mention it in the same chapter!*

It has been sixteen years since Morgarath's victory. King Oswald is dead and Duncan is in exile. Morgarath now sits upon Araluen's throne, thirsting for more power. With the Ranger Corps eradicated, there is no one strong enough to stop him, not alone at least. Will, a lowly farmer of the Aspienne fief, is bored. Life on the farm had never clicked with him, and he begins to long for more. The unknown calls to him, and saving his family is enough to push him on. Gilan is a rising star with the knights of the kingdom, though those around him know he hasn't been behaving well. After the death of Sir David, his father, Gilan is dismayed as everyone around him believes the death to be an accident. He knows in his heart that his death was murder, and he knows that Morgarath had something to do with it. Crowley moves through the forests of Araluen with an entourage of "real" rangers under his command. Never having the heart to leave, he and the rangers travel across the kingdom, doing their jobs in secret, waiting for an opportunity to restore the Ranger Corps. Halt is a renowned assassin. He lives the low life in Gallica, making coin by performing tasks for others. When a messenger from Morgarath finds him in his home, Halt does not hesitate to take up the biggest offer he has ever received. Traveling to Araluen with the thoughts of riches, he finds himself struggling with his identity and who he is really meant to be. A farmer, knight, ranger, and assassin. Four strangers destined to rebuild Araluen from havoc. Morgarath's reign is ending. Araluen needs to be saved. ~A Ranger's Apprentice Fanfiction~ ~An AU~

This isn't much longer after book 10, The Emperor of Nihon-Ja by John Flanagan. A mysterious set of ten books have been sent to Will and his companions. Ranger's Apprentice, the stories of events that had happened to them. *Note: I don't own Ranger's Apprentice, they belong to John Flanagan. (If I did, Alyss wouldn't have died)
