She lay limp in the middle of the empty street, her storm eyes barely glancing in my direction. I found my voice in the far off spaces of my unbeating heart, thump thump, thump thumping-in my vice throat, saying, “What are you doing? That’s dangerous!” Even though it was evident that no one ever drove down this dirt path.
She stared up at the stars, eyes on the moon with a slight smirk dancing at the edge of her mouth. “I’m waiting for something to happen.”
Her words seeped into my pores and made me shiver.
Her name was Crystal, and this is the story of me, The Coward.
