My head throbbed. My entire body is wounded from his most recent punishment. I think my wrist may be broken from fighting back. Tears threaten to escape my eyes, but I will them not to. He gets turned on whenever I cry, and I don't think I can take another non-consensual round of sex tonight. I whimper as I try to find a way to lie down on the cold stone floor that won't hurt me more. The chains wrapped around my feet and wrists clang loudly as I move and it draws his attention to me.
Shit, I think to myself. He's going to beat me again. I start crying. I cannot help it, I'm so scared. He may kill me tonight, and I will never get to tell the man I love that I love him so, so much. I probably won't ever tell my parents that I love them or that I'm thankful for everything they did for me. I don't even know how long I've been down here.

I woke to a sudden breeze invading the warmth from the heavy blanket that caressed my skin. Here, alone with my thoughts, the still, calm quiet in the atmosphere is almost painful. I feel suffocated in the clingy, static air. In quiet, still moments like these, I can almost feel Him. I don't know who "Him" is, but I can feel his presence. Some nights, I roll over and imagine how he looks, envision his smile or the sparkle in his eyes. He's never there and I'm left clutching to the thought that he exists, staring into empty air. Tonight, though, I swear I can reach out and touch him. Extending my hand gently, I sweep my hand out into the darkness and meet an inexplicable warmth.
