Jade never knew how dark her past was, or how dark her future would become. By a cruel twist of fate, she ends up in an unfamiliar place with a long journey before. With very few by her side, Jade sets off to restore the balance in magic and comes to grips with several undeniable truths along the way.
------------
"Jade, my darling, if only you would listen."

I seethed in my shackles. If only I could escape from their heavy weight, I would leave this terrible place behind, and find my mother along the way. My chest rose slowly as I tried to calm myself, even though calm was the last thing I needed to be. The black gown I had been forced to wear was slipping from my right shoulder. The chilly air rose goosebumps over the exposed flesh.

Silas adjusted the material. His fingers lingering a moment too long on my skin. He was too close too me now. So close I could smell the cinnamon and peppermint oils he wore, see the fleck of dust resting in his dark eyelashes, hear his soft and oddly calm breaths leaving his chest.

"What am I?" I finally whispered, hoping he would back away from me.

Silas straightened and gave me that crooked, evil grin that I had come to know too well in too little time. He ran a hand through his curls and straightened his silver circlet crown, composing himself.

"You are the Seventh, what a beautifully cruel fate."

"You're uncomfortable." "For being paid for sex?" She looked up at him. "Why would that make me uncomfortable?" "The money is for the time you spent on your hair, makeup, and then posing. Not for the rest of it." He took her hand and put the envelope in it. "The rest was just two people who got lost in a moment." "Ah I see." She looked down at the envelope with a frown. "Well, thank you then." "No, thank you for doing that for me. It was a huge help." She took a step back and bumped into the door jamb. "Em." She looked up as his hands cupped her face. "I'm still lost." After suffering the loss of everyone she'd cared about all Emmeline Carter wanted a simple, uneventful life. Wren's life is about to change forever - but not how she expects it to. Kidnapped on her wedding day, she finds herself trapped in a mountain cave, unable to return home with no company outside of the inhuman creature that took her. *** "Wait, Wren! Not that way!" It was darker here and panic limited her vision, but she could see it reaching for her; its wings like two huge looming shadows behind it. "Get away! Don't touch me! No, let me go!" She shrieked. She screamed in earnest as a hand took hold of her arm, and then even more when her own hand reached for something to hang onto and grasped at empty air. She had been scrambling towards a sudden drop! The hands hauled her back, but she still struggled. She didn't want to look at it, and she still wasn't sure she wouldn't rather take her chances with the open air instead. "Stop it, I'm not going to hurt you! You'll hit your head on the rock or something. Wren, please!" It knew her name. Somehow it knew her. She was going to die! "Let me go! Stop touching me!" She was sitting on the rocky floor now with her back against an uneven wall, and it was trying to pin her down and hold her still. She kept her eyes turned away and struggled helplessly, but it was no use. It was strong like a human man too, and she couldn't keep it off of her. The wings had moved until they curved around them both and shut out a lot of the light. Its face was so near hers that she could feel its breath brushing against her skin. "Please just look at me for a second. Just look. I'm not going to hurt you." One of the hands grabbed her chin and forced her head to turn, and then she was looking straight into a pair of dark brown eyes. It had a human face too. She had been expecting something monstrous or ghastly, and the surprise made her falter for a moment. He looked young, with a bad haircut and an earnest expression on his face. "I'll let go of you, okay? Just don't lunge around like that anymore, you'll get hurt." He whispered.

"It is time for you to find a suitable lady to marry, don't you think?", my mother comments. Our feast has nearley started and I have already had enough. "Not something I occupy myself thinking about.", I comment, not sure if the told lie was for her, or for me. "Stark girl is looking for a husband. Talissa, if I remember correctly. I think she would be a good fit for you.", she persists and I chuckle, "A good fir for me yet you barely know her name." She opens her mouth to speak but I decide to put a stop to this annoying conversation, "A wife is something I do not need nor desire at this moment. If my dearest sister becomes queen my martial status will be the last thing to keep you up at night." My mother looks at me, "That won't happen, I assure you." Helaena touches mothers hand, taking her attention away from me. I tab my middle finger on the wooden table a few times, lifting my eye to find the person that has been, to my discomfort, taking a fraction of my mind lately. She's talking to Damon, a smile painted across her face as she rests her chin on her hand, carefully listening to him talking. It took some time before her eyes swiftly shifted from his face to mine and the realization of me looking made her drop her arm and straighten up in her seat. My attention made her visibly nervous. Few moments later she stood up and, without thinking, my body did the same. I start walking, making sure I don't loose her in the crowd. I am playing a dangerous game but it is something I simply can not seem to resist. ***** When Damon Targen finds an old broken amulet at his deceased grandmothers house, he asks his friend and co-worker Emma for help in finding more about it, but what they discover will lead them down the complicated path of his family tree and history, eventually getting them trapped in a world they know little about ...a world where war is about to break out and every small move you make decides if you will live or die.
