Aramatha has the one illness that no fairy ever wants to have; chronic depression. As a result, she is unable to fly, and fairies that cannot fly are doomed to live on the outskirts of society, not really children and not really adults. They cannot continue their education, get nice jobs, or marry and raise a family. Aramatha is the only fairy with chronic depression, but she is far from the only one to share this status. Her best friend Trisymr was born with stunted wings, and there are many others who work side by side with them with various conditions.
