Kings have been forbidden. No Queen can marry. A law was passed many centuries ago that no man may ever be on the throne again. So to continue the line of rulers, after a Queen has ruled for the space of between five and ten years she must take on an apprentice. The laws state that the apprentice must be nine to twelve years of age when she begins training.
When the Queen's apprentice is murdered, she has to find a second to fill the gap in the royal line.

The Purple Eyed Girl
Thousands of centuries ago humans, vampires, and werewolves lived together in harmony, considering one equal to the other. Ruled by a council of three kings, with one from each fullblood race, peace endured for quite some time.
