Everything dies. While this truism is morbid, it is a fact of life, the great equaliser, and something that nineteen year-old street artist Chris Kearney learns with brutal finality. When he joins a bureaucratic league of dead people who collect souls for a living, his old life in the living world refuses to leave him behind. His friend and family, suffering in the aftermath of his sudden death, are caught between mourning him and searching for him. It just so happens that death might only be the beginning.

Dominic Gallo dies in a gang crossfire but wakes up as Death's apprentice. Handsome and awkward, Dominic struggles with a reluctant mentor, sleep deprivation, and tasteless food in his surreal new existence working for the Life and Death (L&D) Corporation. He works alongside Life's apprentice, the beautiful but hostile, Violet and her mentor, the bubbly and vivacious Alice. Together, Dominic and Violet pursue her psychotic killer and uncover dark forces within L&D, plotting to bring our world to its knees under a new empire. As the powers of Life and Death divide, Dominic falls for Violet and must make the ultimate choice to either fight on the side of Death or protect the forces of Life at all cost. As a comparison, think Ron Weasley meets Percy Jackson's girlfriend in the afterlife.
