Phoenix is both dead and alive. He passed on when he was 19, and has now lost track of how long he's been dead. He is literally and metaphorically always cold- that is until Sunny Ramirez came around.

As they're both bonded by the mystery of the dead, Sunny has no objection to being involved. To be involved in the fights, the torments of the other world, and the responsibility it takes to protect others. Combining her reality and the dead, she fights on with Phoenix- but can she keep herself from becoming one of the dead?
