Hold on to the only happiness you have and do not let that go." ... Laina moves away to escape a dark past. She goes to a new school and makes new friends. But as she does, she tries to keep her secrets as secrets. She wants to have a new life- a life away from her past, her dark, bloody past. She manages to get a "new" life, but not the "new" she expected. She gets bitten by a panther with glowing eyes and realized that many in her school had this same incident with different animals, they call themselves the Bitten. She learns to accept the Bite and live with it, to find the good that she received from it. But, like everything else in the world, the good comes with bad and the bad comes with good. What happens when the Executors, an organization that hunts people who have the Bite, begin to chase after her as old wounds are ripped open once again? After all, what could one single bite really do to a person's life? I rubbed my eyes and stretched my arms. I extended them too high for they have hit the glittery dream catcher hanging on the headboard of my bed. The said item dropped on my face. "Argh, get off me." I removed the dream catcher from my face and sat up on my bed. I turned my gaze to the clock on the side table; it was 7:15. "Ugh," I moaned. "it's too early." I closed my eyes and tried to sleep again. A few minutes passed until somebody knocked on the door. "Marie," said the person who knocked on the door. "Let's go already!" Shoot, I forgot. No wonder I woke up so early. I quickly rose to my feet and rushed to the bathroom. "Marie! Are you even awake?" I didn't respond just yet because I was in the shower. A few moments later, the same person knocked on my door. "I've got the keys, Marie," she said. I could hear her shaking the keys outside my door. "You can't stay asleep forever!" Hurriedly, I placed on my blue blouse and pants. I grabbed the brush from the bathroom and started to comb my dark brown hair. Rushing to the door, I opened it to see my friend Ranie Accendo. I eyed her gray blazer over her white shirt, pants, and boots. "What took you so long?" she asked. "Nevermind that." I shook my hand dismissively. "Where are we going? If it's not important, I'm going back to bed." "To the forest." "The forest? Why?"
