When you imagine what the world is going to look like in 2308, what do you see? Flying cars, hover boards, and high speed trains that can get you around the world in a minute? Well, ever since the Technology Downfall of 2166, technology has ceased to exist. There are no families or marriage as love and feelings have been outlawed. It is illegal to even introduce yourself to anyone. To the government of Anthoka, feelings are dangerous and so is technology. Huntress Elle is an eighteen year old girl. For her whole life she has felt the blandness of not feeling and has always wished for something more. When Huntress is let into the government's secret surveillance group, The Group, she quickly realizes she isn't the only one who feels this way. The Group members have an exception to a law-they are allowed to know each other and form bonds. For the first time in Huntress's life she gets to talk to others and learn exactly what feelings are. Living in an emotionless world isn't as easy as Huntress thought it was. Forced to pretend that she is a cold hearted, non-feeling person became difficult after she learnt the beauty of feeling. Suddenly her job gets way more complicated when a certain ruler is assassinated. The group is given the task to discover who killed the Kin, but what they discover is way more frightening. Sometimes life is complicated. The most important thing is to know thy enemy. Not everything is as it seems, and the government of Anthoka certainly isn't telling all.

It's been five years since the plague struck. Leah knows there are other survivors, but she's avoiding them. She is doing just fine on her own. Surviving after everyone she knew died has made her physically strong and honed her intelligence, but she is emotionally devastated. There is nothing to fear if you don't make yourself emotionally vulnerable. James has spent the last five years helping to build up a colony of survivors. He believes in the small town they have populated and its mission to save humanity from extinction. He and his small team of men find scattered people and bring them in. Over the last two centuries, women have fought for and won more and more rights, gaining equality with men. Society, law, and technology bolsters and enforces these rights, but now they are gone. Women's equality with men is over. There are just too few of them. They aren't lesser but greater, more important, more valuable than men. Men are expendable. Men can stay outside alone if they like, but all women must be brought inside the safety of the Colony and properly taken care of. James has been searching the area Leah lives in. Her time of solitude is up. Leah sparks something in James he's never felt before. He's not letting this one get away, certainly not twice.
