Cadence Rite appears to have a normal life. She lives in a medium sized North Carolina town with her mom and older brother. But what everyone doesn't see is that her brother just lost his job, her mom is battling cancer, and her dad is mysteriously not around. Cadence is struggling to keep her head above water as she's drowning in responsibilities (taking care of her mom & finishing her senior year), and what's even more, she's drowning in her mind.

Rhyder Ridgemonte's parents just finalized a nasty divorce. They are co-founders of the multi-million dollar law firm "Ridgemonte and Associates". His mom takes Rhyder and moves back to her hometown (Wilson, NC) where she decides to open a new branch of her law firm. Rhyder starts his senior year at WHS where he immediately rises to popularity. He's rebellious, arrogant, an overall douchebag. At least that's how Cadence sees him.

Nevertheless, when these two polar opposites collide, maybe they aren't as opposite as they seem. They've both got some pretty deep secrets, and Rhyder will do everything in his power to figure Cadence out, and to open up to her. While they are both gasping for air in their own lives, they find security and refuge within one another. They find their oxygen.

This is a different story. This is also a semi-cliche story. Read at your own risk.
