Less than a mile away from safety I heard something that will haunt me every time I close my eyes. For what sounded like deep in the heart of the forest, came a bloodthirsty howl. One I have heard from the protection of my bedroom window, faint but still there. Now, tonight, it's all I could hear. The dreadful sound ringing through my ears nonstop. Trying to get me to be afraid, to make the hunt shorter for them. I will not give up, I have to try.

She imagined it almost asking for her touch. It didn't cross her mind how she knew he'd be soft, or how she even knew the creature was a 'he' to begin with. As her finger just barely grazed the animal, multiples things happened. She felt something shock her causing her to pull her hand back, just as thunder and lightning sounded. When the light cleared the animals' eyes, were narrowed into slits, and it was growling. It was a deep menacing sound that sent her stumbling backward, heart wildly beating. It bared fangs the size of her hand alone dipping its head. Had her touch angered the animal into finally attacking her? She kept moving backward in the rain, slipping in her converses as the creature continued growling. It was then she knew she was prepared to run, no matter what happened. Screams, why can I hear screams? I frantically sat up, looking around the room. Nothing. I rubbed my eyes, trying to wake myself up. After another glance around I slowly climbed out of bed, walking towards my closed door. Closed? I never have my door closed at night, but tonight it was. I gently turned the handle, trying to make no noise. The door wasn't so forgiving, it creaked with every little movement. Then, the screaming stopped, leaving behind muffled whimpers.
