Less than a mile away from safety I heard something that will haunt me every time I close my eyes. For what sounded like deep in the heart of the forest, came a bloodthirsty howl. One I have heard from the protection of my bedroom window, faint but still there. Now, tonight, it's all I could hear. The dreadful sound ringing through my ears nonstop. Trying to get me to be afraid, to make the hunt shorter for them. I will not give up, I have to try.

I shuddered. It had never been so dark, nor so quiet before. There was always the light of the moon to guide me. The sound of the wind against the trees. I shook the thought from my mind and continued further into the wood. Then I saw it. A white light spread across the ground in front of me. The clouds had parted from where they were, revealing the moon at its fullest. I stared in awe. It had never been so bright. The ambiance began to come back. The wind began to dance with the trees. After another glance around I slowly climbed out of bed, walking towards my closed door. Closed? I never have my door closed at night, but tonight it was. I gently turned the handle, trying to make no noise. The door wasn't so forgiving, it creaked with every little movement. Then, the screaming stopped, leaving behind muffled whimpers.
