"Enjoying the rain?" A voice behind me asked, startling me. I turned around quickly. Dorian was standing against the door, his arms crossed, and a slight smile pulling at his face. I smiled back at him, coming closer until I was only a few steps away.
"Isn't it wonderful?" I asked him, tipping my head back. "My mother always told me that when it rained, angels were crying. I never understood why that was a good thing until she died." I said, the smile on my lips dieing. "I didn't cry when she first died." I admitted, looking away, into the woods that seemed to surround the house. "I was just... Numb. I didn't know what to feel. The first time I cried about it, I thought that I was weak. I thought that tears symbolised something bad. But after a few years, I realized that tears are what make us human." I paused for a moment, listening to the rain hitting the ground and the roof of the house in a steady downpour. "When we cry, it's not showing weakness. It's showing compassion, anger, sadness, all those things that make us who we are." I finished, my own tears now mixing in with the tears of the angels.

Harper Sloane plans to get away from home as soon as possible, and take her younger brother with her when she does. Her goal in life is to stay as unnoticed as possible, but that all changes when Dorian Penrose enrolls in her school as a new student. When Dorian turns out to be a much different person than she thought he was, it's too late for Harper to turn back into the person she was before, and her mistake may cost others as well.
