Barefoot in the Snow

Melanie told Blaze she never wanted to see his face again the night of graduation. She thought he didn't know why, because he didn't stick around to find out. Melanie was two months pregnant with his child. Melanie and Blaze were the star-crossed lovers at Westmont High. She was from a rich family and played tennis, he lived in a trailer and alayed the drums. She wanted to go to Harvard and study law, he wanted to move to New York and try and make it big. But, they were crazy about each other.

So, when Blaze told Mel that his band got a demo deal, she knew she had to let him live his dreams. He always told her that he never wanted kids and never wanted to get married. So, she pushed him away before he could run. They knew their fling would never last.

Now, six years later, Mel has a beautiful little girl that is the light in her life. They live in a small two bedroom house that Mel rents. Mel never made it to Harvard, but she is working in a law office in the small town near Westmont. She believes that she has everything, and she may be right.

But, Blaze is living a life full of regrets and lies. He has gigs most nights, and groupies to warm his bed. But, he can't seem to get a pair of hazel eyes out of his mind. Nor can he get the feel of Mel's silky brown off his finger tips. There was a few things he never told Mel. One, that he loved her. Two, he knew she was pregnant when he left.
