If you were to walk into this classroom on the sweltering day of June 9th, the final day of school, you would be engulfed with a stifling sense of finality. While everyone wore a smile there was a creeping feeling of dread and lose. All seemed unsure of what was to come except one student. She sat on the table with her legs dangling off, slightly swaying back and forth. She leaned back, putting her weight on her hands that steadied her as her body shook with the laughter that was ever present, especially on the day to end all days. She had a laugh that was so outrageous that you too wanted to laugh, but never at her. Her smile could light up a room and it made her eyes sparkle as if they held the universe within them. She had the slightest Jamaican accent, picked up from her mother, whose accent was so thick she was practically unintelligible over the phone. She continued to sit on the table, legs swaying ever so slightly, laughing without a care in the world, as she looked around the room on that final day. Her eyes settle on the only person without a trace of a smile on their face, and suddenly her laughter falters and she was acutely aware of the unease clogging the room. Suddenly she was back at the first day of school...
