Excuse me?" I asked tentatively, approaching the man who I had spotted from across the street. I had been watching him for a few minutes before I got up the courage to approach him.

"Yes? Oh Hello."  He responded, looking up from his phone, his eyes meeting mine. 

"Jackson, right? I'm Violet, it's nice to meet you." I stuck out my hand to shaking, hoping he didn't find my introduction as awkward as it felt

"Ello Violet, it's a pleasure to meet you, and call me Jack." He said, returning my hand shake and smiling warmly at me.

"Alright Jack, what did you wanna do? There's a cafe around the corner with wonderful coffee." I suggested trying to get us out of the harsh December weather.

The black velvet blanket that is the sky has small diamond like stars that shine and illuminate the darkness below. I look through a few shop windows as I walk past but most of them seem to be shut since it's around 11pm. I see a random Starbucks that seems to be new and I shake my head in disappointment. I don't hate Starbucks but it ruins the town's classic atmosphere. After walking a few more minutes down the road I spot my best friend's coffee shop that her family owns. Luckily it's stays open until 12 so I decide to pop in and have a hot chocolate and chat with her for a bit. The warm air takes the redness away from my cheeks and fingertips as I step inside. I look up to see my best friend Nellie instantly spot me. "Hey, Hannah. It's nice to see you here." She wraps her arms around me for a hug and I gladly hug her back while sneakily stealing her body heat. "It's nice to see you too, Nellie." I reply as we pull away from the hug. "I'll get you the usual, then we can sit down and have a chat." She giggles as she begins to prepare two hot chocolates. I take my woolly coat off and I place it on my chair at a four seated table. I look around at the paintings and little nik naks that are placed of classic wooden shelving with a smile plastered on my face. The original fire place and everything else sets a family and home like atmosphere. Nellie then takes a seat across from me and gives me my hot chocolate.

His lips jerked up into a lopsided sneer as his hand snapped back to his side. The sudden movement left my back cold, as if his palm had been a source of warmth. "You've got to be kidding me!" His tone dripped with disgust. My eyes turned to questioning as I looked back up into his eyes. I brought my hand up to rub my nose, squinting at the slight pain. "What the hell." He grumbled. "I, Jay Julian, reject you as my mate." He, or Jay, said with venom lacing his voice. He quickly turned and walked down the now vacant hallway with no glance back. Rejection? What the hell was that? Was it some sort of local lingo? How did I get rejected on my first day? The first person I make eye contact with at this school rejects me. I guess that's how this school works, if the hottest boy in school rejects you, you're a nobody. If that's how this small town school worked, then I was screwed. So much for making friends, or mates, or whatever they call people in this place. I shake those ocean blue eyes out of my head and continue into the office to start my new life.

However, he walked away before I even finished. OK... he obviously isn't interested in the 'new girl' like all the other students are. I can't help but feel a bit disappointed. Out of all the guys that have hit on me in school today he is the only one that has caught my eye -- bad news is that he didn't even bother. "You know him? Then again who would leave him alone he is S-E-X-Y!" I laughed. "I am going to love being your friend." I said while I looked back to where he had headed a while ago, but I no longer saw him. I sighed disappointed.
