Actually, he didn't even pick her up at all, it was more like she forced him to kidnap her, even though all he had wanted was to nab some jewelry. Tony had never had the desire to kidnap anyone in his life.

He hadn't wanted her. She wasn't something he could sell or pawn. 

Tony wasn't like that-- yeah, he might be a small time criminal, but he wasn't cruel. 

He was just doing what he had to to get by.
