Joen Summer is an 18-year-old, barely-even-adult, guy with a fucked up childhood and a lot of problems. One of which is hanging with a 15-year-old autistic boy named Calvin, a 19-year-old idiot named Simon who is hardly qualified for University, and a 24-year-old black beef cake named Al trying his best to become a drug dealer by selling oregano to preteens.
When Joen's little group of misfits of society meets the new kid, 22-year-old Mikael in their little town in Colorado, everything changes. Al suggests they should play a game of tag with each other: one of them gets to chase the other across the country. Through some dice playing it's decided that Mikael gets to be "it" and Joen the one that gets chased. None of the young adults know what will happen if, or when, the chased person gets tagged however.
But who is Mikael? Where did he come from, and why did he end up out in the middle of nowhere together with the four friends? And what is his connection to the dark haired girl named Lilly that Joen ends up becoming friends with? Joen finds himself interested in Mikael's mysterious and seemingly dark past, and becomes determined to find out what secrets are hiding behind his sad eyes.
