I woke up confused. What just happened? Why am I on the floor? Where are we? My head hurts and my throat burns... What is going on?!! My friends see that I'm awake and from there it's all chaos... ---------------------------------------------------------- This book takes place in the future, the year 2021. I will be eventually rewriting this, although the original will remain available.

Being able to kill someone at the flick of my wrist is not a power I could have chosen for myself had I had the option and a dangerous trek through a mysterious elven realm is also certainly not something I would have expected to occur during my first year at university, but here we are. Life, love, friends, family, and legacy have always been separate to me; however, those lines are now beginning to blur. After Vykens, mutated and soulless vampires killed my parents, I know they will come for me next. As an Aura, I can manipulate the light within me, the same ancient light Vykens feed on. It's supposed to be a sacred power, one used only for good and to help others. But if I want to survive, I'll have to defy the Auran Council and learn to use my rare ability as a weapon. Now I'm caught in something even bigger than I can understand, with a power I can't wield, and no one I can trust, except, just maybe, a mysterious stranger who's captured my heart, making him the biggest danger of all.

Every year, my town chooses a sacrifice for the demon that "watches over" our home. In exchange for a person from the village between the ages of 17 to 25, the demon protects our village. And because of that pact, our village is protected for the next year, under the demon's watchful eyes. No one knows what happens to those who the demon chooses, but there's a lot of theories about it. One is that the demon eats or absorbs those who are chosen - another, that it kills them. But this year, I'm the one who's chosen. I get to meet the demon I've feared since I was a child, and now that I'm 24, and am considered an adult, I could have left the village behind. But I didn't. Something inside me told me to stay. Now, I'm going to die. I just know it. I can't leave now, or run away, because the town would be unprotected for a whole year, and that's where my family lives. I don't know what to do, but I'm sure I'll think of something. Besides, how bad can this demon be if they're guarding our town?

It is human to be weak but to be human alone is not the call.
