Surviving a fall from the eleventh floor of her apartment complex, Penelope Domber finds that her nightmares have invaded her waking life. Labeled as a rare, severe type of facial agnosia, Penelope sees every single person as a carbon copy of the other-- only that these copies all look like rotting corpses. Everyone from friends, to family, to past lovers, all look like monsters upon her gaze. Struggling to recall the events that lead to her inevitable fall, Penelope lives like a recluse, socializing only with her therapy dog, Lovecraft, and her psychiatrist, Victor Webb... until one day, her ex-best friend and former roommate makes an unscheduled visit to their once shared residence.
