Alyss doesn't believe in magic. In fact, she hasn't believed in anything since her mother's death. And as the eldest of twelve princesses, she bears the full responsibility of taking care of her family, which is no easy task.
Ever since her father remarried, she and her sisters' lives have been miserable. When they are banned from doing anything that their stepmother dislikes - including dancing, the one thing they all love - Alyss and her sisters grow desperate.
So when a beautiful white door appears on their bedroom's empty wall, they don't hesitate to open it. What greets them is more wonderful and magical than any of them could have imagined.
Gradually, an enchanting land with handsome princes and promises of magic pulls them farther and farther away from reality. As each day passes, the twelve princesses are drawn deeper into the world that awaits them beyond the door, until they aren't sure they ever want to leave. Until, soon, they want to stay.. forever.
