The story starts in Burgess, a kingdom in which Pitch Black is known as the Nightmare King and reigns. Jack Frost lives with his sister and Rapunzel, a girl he found and rescued from a witch. Jack is a powerful ice Mage, and Pitch wants to use it to his advantage.

DunBroch. Ruled by King Fergus and Queen Elinor, one of Burgess's many enemies after a certain incident that happened many years ago.... Merida is about to meet her suitors, which provides Pitch the perfect opportunity....
