  Non vi è nulla di peggio per una cantante d'opera che perdere la propria voce al culmine della carriera. La sedicenne Gilda von Essenbeck, prima che le venisse diagnosticata una grave infezione alle corde vocali, era la più giovane e brillante promessa dei teatri europei, contesa dai librettisti e dai compositori imperiali.

  In cambio del totale riscatto dal suo passato tumultuoso, Gilda dovrà trafugarlo ed ostacolare gli agenti degli altri musicisti in gara con ogni mezzo, compreso l'omicidio.
