Playing with the Lights off

He woke up to the sound of screeching, coming from the basement, of course. His eyes gazed around the room as he crawled out of his bed which was laced with white sheets. The boy stepped into the hallway, the wooden floorboards creaking beneath his feet. He stared at the pastel walls, hoping; praying, that his family wouldn't wake. He crept down the creaking stairs, his hands shaking a bit. He didn't fear much; but his parents? They were pretty much all the boy feared. He stared into the darkness of the hallway, swallowing his fear as he slowly approached the basement door. Once he swung it open, the horrible smell of rotten flesh filled his nose, "I don't know what I expected," he muttered under his breath as he entered the pitch black room.

He trailed down the stairs, the smell growing more horrific. The girl laid there, her eyes filled with fear as he came into sight. The boy's eyes adjusted to the darkness as he tried to make out what was happening, before he noticed. She's awake.
