There were only two things Summer knew about Christians: that they were hypocrites, and that she wanted nothing to do with them or the God they worshiped. When she is urged to attend a support group led by a local church, the last thing she wants to do is get involved, certainly not with its parishioners. Then she meets Sebastian. A member of the church, Sebastian is a Christian in every sense of the word, with a painfully optimistic outlook on life- even though he is dying of cancer. Despite Summer's animosity towards God, she takes a liking to Sebastian and his "bizarre" Christian behavior. When a beautiful boy with the prettiest brown eyes comes to stay with him for the summer he isn't worried. But then he can't get him out of his head and as he gets to know Caleb more it becomes harder and harder to keep himself from falling for him. Summer might end up losing this bet after all.
