There was a great wrenching as the wings caught the pines at the side of the clearing and broke back, ripping just outside the main braces. Dust and dirt blew off the floor into my face so hard I thought there must have been some kind of explosion. I was momentarily blinded and slammed forward in the seat, smashing my head on the wheel. Black spots covered my vision and I could feel a sticky, warm substance spread down my face before everything faded away.

The brakes are locked and my car begins to spin, hydro planing due to the wet weather. I jolted around in my seat as I release a loud echoing scream inside the car. I cannot see what's going on outside of the car due to the heavy rain. The car is spinning at a frightening speed, and I'm slammed into something heavy. She was sitting on the rocky floor now with her back against an uneven wall, and it was trying to pin her down and hold her still. She kept her eyes turned away and struggled helplessly, but it was no use. It was strong like a human man too, and she couldn't keep it off of her. The wings had moved until they curved around them both and shut out a lot of the light. Its face was so near hers that she could feel its breath brushing against her skin. "Please just look at me for a second. Just look. I'm not going to hurt you." One of the hands grabbed her chin and forced her head to turn, and then she was looking straight into a pair of dark brown eyes. It had a human face too. She had been expecting something monstrous or ghastly, and the surprise made her falter for a moment. He looked young, with a bad haircut and an earnest expression on his face. "I'll let go of you, okay? Just don't lunge around like that anymore, you'll get hurt." He whispered.Complete

I feel something slam into me, knocking the breath from my lungs. Only it is not the car that hits me; it is a person. He takes the brunt of the fall, rolling under me so that my face does not brush the street, but the force of the impact knocks me out of his arms and I skid across the asphalt into the grass. The car speeds past, flying down the road before disappearing on a turn. I wait in agony until my lungs finally work, and then I roll onto my back and gasp for air. "Are you okay?" Liam's voice is frantic as he crawls toward me. He cups my face in his hands and checks my body for injuries. This time I know I am not imagining things. There are dark wings coming out of his back.
