"Joshua come on, you don't even have to spend a lot of money on me. I don't want anything fancy, just the day to spend with my husband."
"Do you like nice things?" he asks me letting out a deep breath of air.
"What?"
"Do you like nice things? You know, your brand new 2013 Nissan Altima, the big house you live in?" He sounds short of breath, probably because he's trying his best not to curse me out in front of his colleagues.
"Well, yeah."
"Well, in order to preserve and obtain more nice things I have to work. And my job comes with numerous meetings, you know that. So why are you giving me a hard time?"
I'll just find someone else to spend my birthday with me.
"Never mind Joshua. I'll find something else to do tomorrow," I say with the threat of tears blurring my vision. Surely someone in this town has no plans on a Friday night.
"I'm glad that's settled. Thank you for wasting my precious time," he says sarcastically.
"Sorry, I just wanted to feel special for a day."
