Marion just left everything she knew behind to pursue a new life in the Big Easy. Born and raised in the Midwest, Marion knew she'd be stepping into another world. The story memorized and repeated to everyone back home was that she "just wanted to live a little" before starting college in the fall. There was only one person she had ever told the truth about her determination to head south. Her childhood friend Anna. All her life, she'd dreamt of New Orleans. The old world charm mingled with the lights of the city, swaying together like two lovers embraced. It was more than just the fascination, Marion felt drawn to it like a familiar voice beckoning her to return home. The dreams over the years had been vivid. Often, she'd awaken to the spice of a hot gumbo still lingering on the corners of her mouth. When tragedy struck the summer after high school graduation, Marion locked herself away in the basement of her parents' home. Then, one last dream sent her spiraling over the edge. It was now a year after the accident, and she halfhazardly packed her bags. No amount of dreams could have prepared her for the fate awaiting her in the crescent city.
