The hero lay broken, his mind barely capable of thinking "ow."
His body hurt, what hurt worse was the faces of his loved ones.
The giant creature of stone and red held the man roughly, savoring in his pain.
"The Justice League has failed,"
That was the first truth Dick had choked on.
His father, his aunts, his uncles......
The people he'd grown with, trained with, idolized had....
Failed.
"This world will suffer,"
The world had suffered, over 75% of the world's population had become something worse then death or slavery.
"Chaos will reign,"
The bombs had been the worst, his memories on the days of ascension were a bleak mix of blood, fire, metal, and insane laughter. They'd told him his mind had simply "forgotten" the rest to preserve his sanity.
"There is no hope,"
He'd realized that as he'd watched Bruce's heartbeat flat-line,
As he saw the sword puncture Alfred's heat,
As he'd screamed as Jason fell into the black hole,
As he watched Tim shoot himself under Talia's will,
And most of all as he watched Dami fade into a haze of red and black as nightmare became reality and he was thrust into the past.
"And there is no way to stop me."

"Hazel." "What?" "My name." I swallowed hesitantly, afraid to shatter the silence between us anymore than I already had, "It's Hazel." The silence of the night made it seem as if someone breathing too loud could make the silence shatter into a million pieces. My voice was no exception, and I was terrified that if I spoke to loud, even one word, the it would shatter, along with everything in the room. The silence seemed to make my voice feel smaller than it was, so when I finally heard his footsteps again, it shocked me to hear how loud and distinctive each one was, as if the silence broke just for him. As if he ruled the silence. It's as if he didn't even view the silence as fragile, but a force that he had to over come. And he didn't want to back down from the fight. <~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~> Summary: Hazel has always tried to do the right thing and be the best person she can be, but that can get confusing when you end up being hunted by someone you don't even know. Or she thought she didn't. Her life has few shadows and a lot of light. Jason Todd has a past that he can't seem to recover from, while Hazel has a past that seems perfect. What happens when both of these are proved wrong? His life has a lot of shadows and few light. And what if the person who helps Hazel ends up being the person who is the most opposite from her? <~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~><~> Rankings: Jason Todd #4 Batfamily #1 Red hood #1 Nightwing #1 Robin #1 Red Robin #2 bruce wayne #1 batman #1 wally west #1 dick grayson #1 tim drake #3 original character #4
