The Second Civil War took its toll on what was previously knows as the USA. States warred with one another, and after bitter and bloody fighting, the Nirvana Treaty was signed. A new form of government designed to maintain peace, at all costs, rose to power and formed Sectors and Zone 0. 
Leilani lives behind the borders of Sector 60 under the oppressive government headed by Governor Chess. Her Grandmother tells her and her best friend Kaethe stories from times before and beyond the walls of her Sector, and though it is illegal, gives her music and books from Pre-Nirvana.
Now, faced with being hung as a traitor to the government, Leilani must make a choice. Flee the confines of Sector 60 and join the mysterious Gypsies that wander Zone 0, or face certain death.
