With the group separated between states, both sides have massive difficulties. The main struggle is Jack and Miranda's difficult task of surviving the brutal and abusive guards at the Minnesota Concentration Camp for the Non-Immunes. It has become clear that the government wants people like them dead, and they have all the time to do it. Meanwhile, in North Dakota, TK must break out of the North Dakota Refuge Camp for the Immune, a pleasant utopia of a camp, to find his lost friends. Worrying about the quickly growing horde that is brewing in North Dakota, and the growing insanity of an old foe, TK must take charge, and lead his group forward... before it's all too late.

The zombie apocalypse is coming. A scientist at the CDC has that terrifying realization when infected victims start displaying the symptoms predicted by his model. A virus responsible for hemorrhagic fevers is mutating into something that zombifies its victims instead of killing them.
