The world of 5 Seconds of Summer is constantly moving. Concert after concert, stage after stage, tweet after tweet. Fans see what they're shown. What they're shown is Luke is the leader of the band. He acts like the center of attention and nobody stops him. Ashton is the quiet laid back drummer that everyone loves. But behind closed doors things are different. Luke isn't the egotistical dick he appears to be, well not completely. Ashton isn't quite so laid back. Both of them together, well, it's quite interesting.
And it's all behind closed doors.

Over and Over (Lashton)
Ashton is okay right now. He's always like this after a bad bout. He starts off saying that the world is his oyster and he loves everyone, but when the energy and fresh success fades, so does he. Luke knows. He knows about all of Ashton's problems. He knows about the time Ashton was bullied nearly to the brink, the family deaths and friend losses, and the ups and downs, the latter of which seem to be more common lately. It's been so easy lately for Ashton to slip after a joke gone wrong, or a jab on Twitter. Ashton always says he's sorry, repeating it again and again if only to convince himself. Luke knows he's sorry, knows that he can't help it. And he'll sit by the bathtub for hours, holding Ashton, to make sure that he knows someone loves him. None of the other boys know. Ashton couldn't bring himself to tell them and face their disapproving stares too, and he wouldn't let Luke tell them, so he's stuck in this half state of secrecy and confession to Luke. Ashton hasn't gone too far yet, not far enough that Luke can't patch him up with gauze, antibiotics, and a long hug. But someday, someday, Luke knows Ashton won't be able to take it anymore, and Ashton will die. And Luke will be all alone.Complete

5 Seconds of Summer are a few shows away from the end of the Where We Are tour back in 2014. Next, they're going to be selling out concerts, playing in stadiums, and living their dreams even more than they are currently. But just because things are wonderful on the outside, doesn't mean things are scratch-free under the surface. Luke is battling a war against himself, though he would never admit to it. He thinks he's completely fine; he's not doing anything out of the ordinary. He's just improving himself. Cutting out junk food and adding in some exercise isn't harmful. But obsessing over weight, restricting food intake, being afraid to eat? That's a different story... But Luke is handling it. Luke is in control. At least, that what he thinks.
