Meet Summer, a girl in her mid-teen ages. She lives in the future, where people each have a special power they are granted at a certain age. She lives with her older brother Winter. They are complete opposites, and their parents died when they were younger. They live together in a small apartment and are pretty poor due to the fact that Winter can't get a good job because he's young. In their town, a really big event called 'The War Games' is a game that puts 5 people together in a group, and in each game, there are 6 groups. They are thrown into a battlefield with wild animals, insane weather, and the struggle to get food and water while staying under shelter. If one group encounters another group, it's a fight to the death. To win the games, one group must stand, it doesn't matter how many people survived in that specific group. Everybody who was on the winning team is automatically sent to live in pure luxury, along with infinite money and food, without having to live a hard life in the city. Summer thinks that if she joins the games and wins, she can give Winter the career he deserves. She talks to him about it, and since she hasn't gotten her power yet and also he doesn't want her to die, he denies her request and tells her never to talk about the topic again. But when she sits at the table and waits for the reaping, she gets more than she bargained for.
