Footsteps that weren't my own echoed from behind me. I kept walking, slightly bracing myself for what could happen if those footsteps weren't friendly. "Hey!" A barely familiar voice shouted form behind me. "Amity, right?" I scowled at the annoyance as I walked faster. The footsteps became closer and they picked up the pace. "Hey," Max smiled. I didn't look at him, but I could sense his happy rays from where I walked. "Did you not hear me?" I clenched my fists at the annoyance I continued to proceed forward, going gradually faster. Why didn't he just give up like how everyone else did? I slowed down, then glanced at him. He walked with a carefree pep in his step. His eyes wandered as if he didn't care what was happening around him. He looked at me from the corner of his eye, and I faced forward again. "What do you want?" I question, not wanting to sound friendly, nor wanting to drag this conversation on any further. "Why would you think that I would actually want something?" He laughed. "Besides your company of course." I grabbed onto my backpack string and started walking faster again. "Everybody wants something." I said blankly. "Somebody can't do something for you and expect nothing in return." I finished. And with that, I left him in the dust of my tracks, with footsteps, made by my shoes that were begging to run.All Rights Reserved
