"He had a way with words and the air around him seemed to make people trip over themselves to love him. Like a moth to a flame, a flame of charm and beauty and something else. He had that smile and those eyes that could lure anyone to their demise. I had to hate him. I had to be the only one to hate Wesley Avalos." Brynne Moreau has everything timed to perfection: from the arts to academics, to track and field and soccer, to pleasing her parents--all except talking to people her own age. Her only friend is a horse named Jax and an old woman down the street who says hello when she walks her dog. It all changes with an uninvited knock to the door. The Avalos family is strange and aloof; not much is known about their history, even less so the people involved. When Wesley "Foxe" Avalos comes looking for Brynne, her life changes and she realizes that the best things come unexpectedly.

Premise: Seventeen-year-old Ava Carter has always been the quiet girl in school-smart, sarcastic, and completely uninterested in the social scene. But when bad boy Jaxon Reed makes a bet with his friends that he can make her fall for him in a month, he doesn't realize that winning her heart might mean losing his own. Plot: Jaxon, the school's charming troublemaker and star soccer player, is dared by his friends to get Ava to fall for him before prom. He accepts, thinking it'll be easy-until he realizes Ava isn't like the other girls he's dated. She sees through his charm, calls him out on his arrogance, and refuses to give him the time of day. As Jaxon tries harder, he finds himself actually wanting to get to know her. Ava, despite her best efforts, starts letting her guard down. Late-night talks, stolen glances, and unexpected moments bring them closer. But just as Jaxon begins to realize he genuinely likes her, Ava finds out about the bet. Heartbroken and humiliated, she cuts him off completely. Jaxon, for the first time in his life, has to fight for something real. But can he prove to Ava that she was never just a bet to him?
