♡BOOK ONE OF THE CHOOSING SERIES♡

When the heir to the Norta throne turns 19, a Choosing happens. It's a competition between 35 girls who all vie for the attention of the prince in hopes of becoming the next Queen.

Usually, only Silver girls are allowed to participate. This year, however, things are different.

When it is announced that Reds are now allowed to try out for the Choosing, 17 year old Madison Williams isn't interested. She's content living the life of a 5 and has no personal reason to try out for the Choosing. But money, that her family needs, will be given to participants of the Choosing. So Madison decides to try her luck. She doesn't expect to get chosen. Nor does she expect to gain any sort of feelings towards Prince Ahren.

But Ahren Calore is much more than the stoic prince Madison has seen on T.V. Thrown into a world of luxury and glitter, can Madison survive the surprises, romance, and betrayal this new world will throw at her?

!!!Undergoing Editing!!! *previously known as The Red Queen Effect* "It's strange what desires could make foolish people do. I'd never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you, And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you." ~ Wicked Game by Chris Isaak There were many times that I could remember hearing the stories about people falling in love or meeting their one true love. Stories that had allowed me to fantasize about meeting my true love, the one that fate had chosen for me. However, it seemed like it truly was never meant to be, according to my grandmother, "Love is a Queen's greatest weakness. Remember, my dear granddaughter, you are a Princess now but you will soon be a Queen who will rule with an iron fist and an empty heart." But was love truly a weakness? According to the stories that I have read and heard around the castle, love seemed to be something magical and incredible, especially if it was true love. So, how could someone determine it to be a weakness? It wasn't until I landed in Neverland that I had to find out the truth the hard way, in the most excruciating and heart-wrenching way possible. Yet, It was my fault after all, I decided to make a game out of it and someone else decided to use that to their advantage. If I was given the chance to change something from my past it would have been to prevent myself from all of the heartache that was to come. Maybe then I could have saved myself the trouble of having to rip out my own heart. But you know what they say, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." I am the daughter of the Evil Queen, the granddaughter of the former Queen of Hearts, there is no such thing as a happy ending for people like me. I can see her falling for me, but then she stands back, her shield and armor by her side. She is afraid of herself. She doesn't want me in her life. She is the type that just disappears. "Don't expect anything from me," she says. "Why?" I ask. "Because I'm just a wind that passes by. I can't be anything more." Fine. Let me be gone with that wind. No reasons. No issues. No explanations. "Please. Just stay a little bit longer." I plead. Her eyes meet up with mine, clearly showing curiosity. "Why?" "You know what? When you're with me, I'm beginning to feel a heart beating in my empty chest for the first time in my life." And I don't want that feeling to end.
